First proclaimed in 1777, Welgegund Heritage Wine Farm is a family owned, boutique wine farm in the Blouvlei area of Wellington. Its peaceful location offers a sense of seclusion and magnificent views of the dramatic Hawequa mountain peaks that border the farm. It is characterised by ancient granite outcrops and areas of natural fynbos, and is blessed with an abundance of bird life.
Our vines and the grapes they produce are the very heart of Welgegund and our vineyards are our greatest blessing. While we give our vines individual attention and nurturing, as much as possible is left to Mother Nature’s expert hand and our minimum intervention ideology begins here. We grow strong, resilient and characterful vines that naturally produce low yields of exceptional quality grapes, full of flavour, colour and intensity and steeped in the influences of their surroundings.
Welgegund’s Certified Heritage Vines are a very special part of our legacy and we are a proud member of the Old Vine Project. Our oldest vineyards are our Chenin Blanc and Cinsault vineyards, both planted in 1974 and our Certified Heritage Carignan vineyard was planted in 1979.
